Chapter 1: Pre-Screening

When a client calls and requests an eyeliner, this is usually a very exciting moment for us as artists! This is the long awaited moment where we can finally utilize our skills and create beautiful art for our clients to love and show-off for many years to come! Favorite Brow Colors by Teryn Darling

However, it’s important that we take a second to slow down and carefully consider all of the possibilities when it comes to client safety! This is where pre-screening the client comes into play.

As artists it is our job to ensure that our clients don’t have pre-existing conditions that could prevent us from doing their eyeliner (or any procedure).

It is important to send a list of questions to your client  If the client passes the pre-screening, then sending them your full Medical Profile and Client Consent Forms is a good follow up. We prefer to have all these forms filled out and signed prior to the appointment.  Live & Record Webinars

We’ve all seen it. That one eyeliner that looks a bit blurry, smudged, or runny even though the client requested a sharp saturated liner. That is called migration! This is a result of the pigment (typically Carbon Black) expanding below the skin layer when it hits fat, blood vessels or capillaries.

For both new and seasoned PMU artists, adhering to best practices in hygiene, sanitation, and safety is not only crucial for client trust but also for industry compliance. Here’s why sanitation and safety are important in the PMU industry and some best practices to follow.

Chapter 3: Products are Important! Why Sanitation and Safety Matter

As artists, nailing long-lasting, high-quality eyeliner isn’t just about technique—it’s also about using the right products!Sanitation in PMU isn’t just about keeping things clean – it’s about creating a sterile environment to prevent infections and ensure client safety. Given the nature of PMU procedures, which involve puncturing the skin, maintaining a sanitary setting is essential to avoid complications and ensure the best results overall.

Client Safety:

Teryn Darling’s OMG® Eyeliner Pigments  Ensuring the safety of clients is the foremost priority. Proper sanitation and safety protocols prevent infections, allergic reactions, and other complications that can arise from unsanitary conditions.

Teryn spent years mastering the Eyeliner procedure until it became her favorite.Professional Reputation:

High standards of cleanliness and safety build trust and credibility with clients. A clean, safe environment demonstrates professionalism and care, encouraging repeat business and positive referrals.

She wanted to create a collection of Eyeliner pigments that would surpass expectations with their ability to implant quickly, saturate the skin with ease, decrease procedure time, and increase healed-in color retention—everything she looks for in a pigment when performing her own eyeliner work.

Legal Compliance:

Teryn is confident that artists of all levels will love these pigments and experience a whole new level of pigment performance needed to achieve amazing results. The PMU industry is regulated by various health and safety standards. Compliance with these regulations is necessary to avoid legal repercussions and to ensure the practice operates within the bounds of the law.

 Health Protection:

Protecting both clients and artists from potential health risks, such as bloodborne pathogens, is essential. Proper sanitation practices reduce the risk of transmitting infections and diseases.

Best Practices for Hygiene, Sanitation, and Safety

Clean Workspace:

Maintain a clean and organized workspace. Disinfect all surfaces before and after each procedure. Use barriers on equipment and workstations to prevent cross-contamination.

Teryn's OMG Needle® lineSterilized Equipment:  Always use sterilized equipment and disposable tools. Autoclave reusable instruments and replace single-use items after each client. Ensure that needles and pigments are fresh and sterile.

Teryn's OMG Needle® line was born from the need for shaders and mags with .25 diameter needles. After testing and receiving positive feedback from other artists, the line includes both liners and shaders made with .25 diameter needles. These needles are more refined, delivering a lot of pigment without being bulky.Hand Hygiene:  Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after each procedure. Use hand sanitizers when necessary. Wear disposable gloves and change them frequently, especially if you touch anything non-sterile.

For outlining and detail work, both the 3rl and 5rl needles are great choices. If you're new to using a 5rs, start with a 3rs for smaller liners and lash enhancements, then transition to the 5rs for larger liners as you become more comfortable.Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):  Wear appropriate PPE, including gloves, masks, and protective eyewear. This not only protects you but also reassures clients of your commitment to their safety.

OMG® Needles 5 Round Shader #8Proper Waste Disposal:  Dispose of sharps and biohazard waste in designated containers. Follow local regulations for the disposal of hazardous materials to ensure safety and compliance.

OMG® Needles 5 Round Liner #8Client Consultation and Aftercare:  Conduct thorough consultations to assess any potential allergies or medical conditions. Provide clear aftercare instructions to clients to minimize the risk of infections and ensure proper healing.

Stay updated with the latest industry standards and practices. Regularly attend training sessions and obtain certifications to enhance your knowledge and skills in sanitation and safety.
